The ideal journey to discover South Africa for beginners
Itinerary: Day 1 and 2: Magnificent Cape Town Arrival in Cape Town, pick up your the rental car and drive to the hotel. The location of South Africa's "Mother City" at the bottom of the mighty Table Mountain, surrounded by two oceans, attracts countless visitors every year. During your stay we recommend: e.g. an ascent or a hike up to Table Mountain, a panoramic trip to the "Cape of Good Hope" with a visit to the penguin colony at Boulders Beach. For active visitors, there is a wide range of activities on offer, such as cycling tours through the panoramic landscape of the Cape, surfing courses, guided hiking tours in the area, parachuting, and much more. 2 overnight stays with breakfast in De Tafelberg Guesthouse, Deluxe Room (or equivalent)
Day 3 and 4: Franschhoek and the winelands (80 km) Drive to Franschhoek. Franschhoek is South Africa's gourmet city surrounded by fertile wineries and the best restaurants in South Africa. The coming days, you can enjoy the culinary delights while eating at a winery and get to know the exquisite South African grape varieties during a wine tasting. 2 overnight stays with breakfast in Chapter House Boutique Hotel, Deluxe Room (or equivalent)
Day 5 and 6: Whale coast at Gansbaai (140 km) Today the journey takes you along the partly spectacular coastline past Hermanus to Gansbaai. 70 km from Cape Town in the Walker Bay region of the Western Cape there is the village of Gansbaai, which means 'goose bay'. But nobody talks about geese anymore, the big topic here are sharks and whales - the main attractions of this small fishing village are "Shark Cage Diving" and "Whale watching" ( Dyer Island Cruises). It is worth taking a detour via the "Scenic Road" to Bettys Bay - her you can visit a penguin colony on the way. 2 overnight stays with breakfast in Cliff Lodge, North Room Sea view with balcony (or similar)
Day 7 to 9: Big Five at Garden Route / Mossel Bay Region (300 km) In Gondwana Private Game Reserve with its more than 11.000 hectares of land, you have the opportunity to get very close to the "Big Five" (lion, rhino, leopard, buffalo and elephant) on a game drive or bush walk. The round-cottages of the Gondwana Bush Villas have a dome thatched roof and stylish furnishings. In the bathroom you can also enjoy the wonderful view from the bathtub. The individual cabins are seperated by grass hills. 3 overnight stays with full board in Gondwana Private Game Reserve / Kwena Lodge incl. all game drives (or similar).
Day 10 to 12: Plettenberg Bay (180 km) Continue on the Garden Route to Plettenberg Bay and check in at Hog Hollow Country Lodge. The charming lodge is situated on the edge of the Tsitsikamma Forest with magnificent views of the surrounding valley and mountains. The adjoining forests are not only a bird paradise, but also home to monkeys, lynx, otters, warthogs, baboons and antelopes. For active and sportive visitors, a steep path leads directly down Monkeyland - a primate sanctuary. 3 overnight stays with breakfast at Hog Hollow Country Lodge, suite (or similar)
Day 13 to 14: Oudtshoorn (90 km) Today, your journey continues to Oudtshoorn to Buffelsdrift Game Lodge. The Buffelsdrift Game Lodge offers 34 luxury tents. Each tent has its own wooden terrace from which you can relax, look at the waterdam with hippos, enjoy the wonderful views and observe the animals. Besides giraffes, rhinos and kudos you can also see cute meerkats. It's worth visiting an ostrich farm or take part in an elephant feeding. If the schedule allows, we recommend a visit to the Cango Dripstone Caves. 2 overnight stays with breakdfast at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge, Luxury Waterhole Tent (or similar)
Day 15: Return trip to Cape Town (425 km) (Alternatively return flight from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town or Johannesburg, in that case overnight in Oudtshoorn and afterwards in Plettenberg Bay).
