The island of Desroches is located in the middle of the Indian Ocean about 230 kilometres and 35 minutes by plane from the main island of the Seychelles, Mahé. Desroches belongs to the Amirantes group. The island is a about 6 km long and around 1 km wide, but at its narrowest point it is only just under 500 m. Desroches is surrounded by a beautiful, almost 15 km long, white sandy beach. The island is characterised by its incredible biodiversity and is a protected area for Aldabra giant tortoises and sea turtles. Thanks to the Island Conservation Society and the Four Seasons Resort, the island once again harbours a healthy population of these reptiles, which are between a few days and 120 years old. Guests of the resort can visit the conservation centre and the turtle feeding.
