Enjoy your holidays in the picturesque Salzkammergut region
The Salzkammergut is one of Austria's most popular holiday regions. It covers parts of the provinces of Salzburg, Upper Austria, and Styria. The region is awesome with its clear lakes, tall mountains, and unique nature, offering tons of stuff to do in both summer and winter. Many regional specialities, such as fresh fish from the mountain lakes, and living traditions attract guests from all over the world. The region is famous for its World Heritage Site Hallstatt, its millennia-old salt mining and the imperial summer resort of Bad Ischl, among other things. The small Altaussee Lake is one of the most scenic lakes in the Salzkammergut. It lies at the foot of the Loser mountain in the middle of a dreamlike mountain landscape. Its water is crystal clear and transparent with a slightly dark blue color. This is why the Altaussee Lake is also called the “dark blue inkwell.” This name goes back to an old story.
