The Salzkammergut is one of Austria's most popular holiday regions. It covers parts of the provinces of Salzburg, Upper Austria, and Styria. Its water is crystal clear and transparent with a slightly dark blue color. This is why the Altaussee Lake is also called the “dark blue inkwell.” This name goes back to an old story.
